Video 1: for inspiration...

The following clip takes a look at the design of a simple wooden block. It is a cretive and unique take on relooking and reideating on the wooden block idea. Take a listen and let me hear your thoughts in the 'Comments' section of this blog post!

  1. I think this very interesting and it can get a child to learn more about fractions and magnets. It uses magnets to connect the cubes together and it can be easily taken apart too. No need for screws or ball&socket joints etc. This simple design is very good as you can rotate the cubes if some cannot go into place. However, a set back is that children cannot build pyramid like structures like equilateral triangles with 3 cubes.

  2. This toy is a simple design yet allows the child to learn about the poles of magnets and the maths behind the length of the blocks. It can be easily build together but certainly some blocks will repel and trying to rotate it when the building is already built might just destroy the creation. The magnets in the blocks might not be seen from outside but, if the child drops the magnetic blocks many times, the magnet might lose its power.

  3. The design of the toy is innovative and interesting. It allows the child to learn maths and puzzles while allowing them to have fun playing with the blocks. They can build amazing structures which even adults would not have thought of, and maybe that structure would soon become a man-made marvel.

  4. This toy is a good toy as it is simple and it comes in separate units, which allows the child to make whatever he/she wants. The blocks are also easy to put together and easy to take out, which does not need the child to use a lot of strength. It also teaches the child about magnets, which sides repel and which sides attract, and maths, about fractions and how many cubes make the length of the different planks. So this toy is fun to play with and also useful in the child's learning.

  5. A simple toy design combined with a simple concept of magnets allows a child's mind to run free, as long as the parent has deep pockets (the blocks are quite expensive) These toys are environmentally friendly as well, using wood instead of oil-derived plastic materials. A deceptively simple yet engaging toy with great replay value for the child.

  6. This toy is a good example of a simple yet innovative toy. It combines the blocks that we normally play with with magnets to create a new kind of toy. Because of the magnets in the blocks, some parts of the blocks might repel each other, thus the child would also learn about magnetism and the force of attraction and repulsion. This would be effective the child's learning experience.

  7. The design of thew tegu wooden block toys are very interesting. On the outside, they look just like the traditional wooden blocks. However, they are magnets inside that allow the blocks to be fixed and arranged in many more different ways than previously limited by gravity.

  8. A good toy is a simple toy that can attract attention. In this case, the toy is simple as it is made up of blocks and planks and it can be put together into the shape of any object

  9. I feel that the mathematical calculation aspects was extremely well done as it gives the children a lot of combinations to build on. This is one of the main aspects that toys should have: creativity. Also, having a magnet inside the blocks gives them new possibilities, and a new learning point on magnets.

  10. This design of the toy is very simple but it allows the child to learn about the poles of magnets and the science behind how those blocks can attract with one another. It can easily be constructed together but certainly some blocks will repel and try to rotate the blocks and it might destroy the structure. The magnets in the blocks might not be seen from outside but, if the child drops the magnetic blocks many times, the magnet will definitely lose its power and can no longer attract as strong as before.

  11. The creator of this toy obviously wanted something simple, fun and yet it allows the user to play and construct the toy in any way he/she wants. This toy will promote creativity and visualization skills. Rather make something for the player, this toy lets the player make something out of it, resulting in endless possibilities.

Endless possibilities is the key term here, as it allows the player to constantly be thinking of something fun and creative. This toy is extremely innovative and cool, by challenging the player, complementing the human's way of thought by being made into something that the user wants, and not restricted only to that structure.

  12. This is a very interesting toy design. It allows children to let their creative side take over as they can build whatever they want using the different parts. It can also be used for children to learn about magnets, math and science. It is not a complicated toy and the parts are quite big so it is not a choking hazard and thus it is suitable for both young children as well as older children.

  13. This is a nice and simple toy. It is easy to keep(due to magnets) and fun to play with as it can be made into any form the user wants it to be. It can also be used as an educational tool as it has different lengths.

  14. Even though the concept of the Tegu Blocks is simple, it is innovative and can provide hours of fun to children. It stimulates the creativity in children by allowing the child to construct what he/she thinks about. One can continue playing with the blocks as the possibilities are endless and many different combinations can be formed with the blocks. I like the part where the blocks can not only be used for fun purposes, but also for learning. For example, the how the magnets connect, design, etc. However, I would feel that if the blocks were made to attract to every other block without a repelling action. This would make the blocks more fun and magical.

  15. Even if the toys maybe simple, there could be many way to play. In fact, the simpler it is, the more ways to play it. Tegu blocks promote innovation and creativity by allowing the child to design his/her own world. The toy comes in four forms, the long plank, the short plank, the cube and the candy bar. Each of them have magnets place in different sections of the toy. The poles of the magnet are strategically placed in a way that every part of the toy could stick together in some ways. It allows the child to discover the ways or strategies to build structure. While they are playing, they are actually learning without themselves even knowing what they are doing. So its is learning through fun, yet this kind of toy are not really abundant, we should tend to build more simple and more educative toys, to allow te user to expand their creativity and innovation.

  16. I think that this toy would seem a lot much fun, with magnets on. They have made this toy really easy to play. It does incorporate fun (playing with blocks) with learning (magnets etc. ). They are smart enough to censor their secret to the success of the block.
This toy is subconsciously making the people to learn something else, which is good as sometimes, learning by many ways to re-enforce the learning.

  17. I feel that this toy is very simple and it contains very few parts, however, this toy is still a fun toy. This toy is a bit like lego, it allows the child to learn to construct buildings and also this toy can also teach the toy about fractions too.

  18. It is a very fun way to learn lessons, as it is learning through playing and hands-on. It teaches many lessons, like magnetism, blocks. It is good for young children to aid their learning, especially when they feel that the topic is very boring. The parts are very simple which is also suitable for young children with simple minds.

  19. Because of the blocks large size, it does not pose as a chocking hazard. As it uses magnets to join the blocks, it does not require much strength to pull apart. It is similar to Lego because of its ability to allow the children to create structures.

  20. I think that this is a good way to reinvent the block. Just by adding a single element to it, the magnet and also by creating many different sizes, you can do so many things with the block now. It also serves as a good way to teach the children different lessons

  21. Good to see that all of you thinks that the toy is indeed good in its design and able to engage its target audiences. There is also a high re-playability value in it too, which is sadly, lacking in some toys. Do take note of these in your current toy design project then! :D
