eLearning Lesson 2 by Gwendolyn_Chee (03)

The ruler uses a pivot to cut down the amount of space needed to store it by half.
Levers and linkages under the chair allows the bottom half of it to be retracted when not in use.
A rubbar band links two wheels together to move smoothly when in use.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Victor Ang (07)

eLearning Lesson 2 by Choi_Min_Suk (10)

Part 1:

1. This is a picture of one of our cloth hangers. It uses linkages in
the middle for the two stands to rotate, therefore making it flat when
folded.
2. This is a picture of a tap. It uses the machine lever. When the
knob is lifted up, there is a movement of the joints, allowing the
water to flow out.
3. This is a picture of a see-saw. It also use the machine lever. It
is the 1st class lever where the fulcrum, the joint, is in the middle
and the two kids on it are the loads/efforts.

Part 2:

Well, I have a dog at home and somehow it maybe has fleas, but it
always feels itchy. The best place to scratch itself is the 'low' fan
where there are lots of gaps to have its fur scratched. There is
always fur stuck there (its clean now because its washed). The good
part is that its scared of the sound made by the fan, so when it ons,
it runs away. I made this idea to make the fan on when my dog tries to
scratch on it. This uses the lever system. The arrows show the
directions of the metal poles when the bottom platform is pressed. So
when my dog presses on it, the fan turns on and my dog runs away. In
fact this can benefit us as we ourselves can step on the platform to
on the fan.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

These real-life photos of the stairs and Thirsty Hippo boxes.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

These are the pictures for the blind and the correction tape.

Pictures for Part 1

These are the picture for the bicycle and piano.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

These are the rest of the pictures for Part2.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

Part 2

Problem: Occasionally we have to bring down "Thirsty Hippo" boxes. (They are boxes that suck moisture and have to be discarded when the liquid inside reaches a certain level.)
We have over 10 boxes to bring down, but only 2 can be brought down at a time, as the liquid inside might spill or leak if we risk bringing more in our arms and hands. So, bringing them down by going up and down the stairs over 5 times is tiring.

Solution: To construct a fixed pulley on the railing of the second level, next to the stair bar. A rope will be knotted to the bar to fix it there and prevent the load from slipping and landing with a crash. The other end of the rope is tied to a bucket or a container to hold the boxes. The bucket will be gently lowered by slowly releasing the rope down. It is simple but effective.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

Part 1

Mechanism A (gears) : The bicycle. By pushing down on the pedal, the chain gear gets turned, which rotates the wheel. The two pedals always maintain a 180 degree distance from each other.

Mechanism B (levers): The piano. When the keys are pressed, the hammer inside the system is activated and knocks a string, thus producing the specific note.

Mechanism C (pulleys) : The roll-up blinds. This involves the application of pulleys to assist the rolling up of the blind when it is required for convenient pass through.

Mechanism D: The correction tape. When pressed down firmly on the paper and pulled back, the wheels inside rotate according to allow the movement of the fluid-filled tape and the storage of the empty tape.

Apologies for the late submission of work. (there are problems attaching pictures)

eLearning Lesson 2 by Christopher John (11)

When the wind blows, the door will slam shut with a loud bang and everyone on the same floor will hear it very clearly.

How does the locking mechanism works?
There is a small lever on the door and when the door is pushed shut, the pin in the small lever will enter a hole in a lever which is stuck to the wall thus locking the door.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Christopher John (11)

Part 1

eLearning Lesson 2 by Lee YuChong (17) Part 2

The window opens too far out and renders it difficult to pull it back closed. Also, it causes a lot of friction when closing the window. My solution would make use of pulleys to pull the linkage and lever system moving the window and also the use of ball bearings would reduce friction.

eLearning Lesson 2 by Lee Si Yuan (16)

Part 2

The problem: The broom cant stand.
Solution: The dustpan will always be with the broom, and because of that we can have a connector at the pole of the dustpan which will connect the broom to the dustpan allowing the  broom to be able to stand together with the dustpan.
