I feel that what this person in the video said in very true. For example, a child must be gentle in order to play a toy and not aggressive. A toy also can have the same characteristics, but a completely different design. Many toys can be derived from animals or developed from another toy. For example a toy being able to stretch is like a snake striking. Thus children learn more about how snakes strike or how they move. Toys can teach many people different things. But a toy must be original if you want it to be fun. If the same thing repeats, people/children will now find it fun anymore.
The design of the folk toys are very clever and interesting as some apply to daily life. The mechanisms have intricate designs that follow the laws of physics.
A good toy must be simple, easy to construct, original idea, and the user must have fun. The user also gets to learn many things and expands their imagination. A good toy also does not break or fail easily.
A good toys is a toy in which can allow the child to be enticed and be amazed at the "concept" behind the toy. This makes the child want to learn about the toy and this would make a child interested which defines a good toy from the bad.
A good toy is a toy that is easy to play with but still creates a lot of fun for the kids. Folk toys are easy to play with and they are fun, which does not frustrate the kids who play with it. Example, by just applying a bit of energy to the toy, they toy creates excitement for the children and enjoys it. Folk toys also are easy to make, so when they are broken, it is easy to construct it again.
This man is very knowledgable about concepts, designs and the process behind producing a toy. His deep understanding about the different objectives of different toys amaze me. Some toys are designed to teach gentleness, as a agressive player will only break or destroy the toy. Some toys have replay value while other toys don't have any and eventually the player loses his/her intrest in the toy.
To me, a good toy is when one is captivated by what it does, what causes it to act that way and why that happens. This boils down to the concept the designer is using and how it is being applied to a simple yet innovative toy. Another aspect is the sustainability. I would consider a toy 'good' if a child were to play with it for a long period of time and yet still finds joy in it.
A simple design and concept that would allow children to have fun and be curious on the process of how the toy works and how it was made is what I consider as a good toy. Folk toys follow this expertly as they use limited resources to create simple yet fun toys.
A main thing about a good toy that it must be fun and when the user plays with it, he/she would feel happy and and will make the user to be interested to play the toy. A good toy should also keep the user to be interest for as long as possible. I also think that some of these simple folk toys can be very simple yet very fun and many toys have sparked inspiration from these folk toys.
A toy...is something that probably surprises the player, or has the ability to change its looks. A toy, can also be something that puzzles the human mind, by changing how it looks like (For example, color, structure). A toy might also be something with an interesting action, reaction or change, different from how the player might think it would react. Basically, what defines a toy is something fun and 'can be changed'.
I think that a good toy is something that is able to interest the child and also it could be used to teach a specific lesson. The whole idea of the toy might be derived from other toys and concepts and the children will learn from the toy itself
A good toy is one that can hold your attention for a long period of time, is attractive and does not bore a person. It does not have to be a very complicated concept, as long as it is easy to grasp and a person can have fun with it, it is a good toy.
The main thing about a toy is that it triggers your imagination, is fun to play with, attractive and must make the person playing with the toy happy. A toy can also be used to teach stuff such as concepts in science and math.
The process of making toys is to first be inspired by the toys that have been created, then we could improve or modify on them. The best example to get from are from village toys. They may seem to be simple and too traditional but they provide good inspiration for future toys. The child plays their toys without even knowing that they are actually learning physics, momentum and stored energy. Many toys' concepts are actually from the village toys for example the rubiks cube's concept is actually from one of the village toys. What the villager said was infinitely right, they could be a child's favourite toys.
What defines a good toy is the idea behind the toy, the objective of playing with the toy and discovery when playing with the toy. The ideas from the folk toy lead to modern toys today, only the change in materials, the shape and possibly the durability of the toy. Ideas from folk toys give the basic idea of how simple the process should be.
A good toy is a toy that is easy to play and allow the children to have fun when playing it. Folk toys have been around for a very long time as thus must have something about it that children enjoy about.
A good toy has a good idea behind it. It can teach people without even them knowing knowing that they are learning something. There toys that are improved, but the concept still remains the same. A good toy makes you inquisitive about it and wanting to "play" more.
It is heartening to see very good and critical comments from all of you! The idea of a toy to 'teach' gentleness is rather interesting...I mean who would have thought that such a concept and a corresponding toy even exists in the first place. But here you have a folk toy that (tries to) do exactly that, and it is good to see that some of you see toys as more than just about its 'play' value per se, but more than that!
