eLearning Lesson 2 by Tim_Yap (23)

Part 2

Problem: Occasionally we have to bring down "Thirsty Hippo" boxes. (They are boxes that suck moisture and have to be discarded when the liquid inside reaches a certain level.)
We have over 10 boxes to bring down, but only 2 can be brought down at a time, as the liquid inside might spill or leak if we risk bringing more in our arms and hands. So, bringing them down by going up and down the stairs over 5 times is tiring.

Solution: To construct a fixed pulley on the railing of the second level, next to the stair bar. A rope will be knotted to the bar to fix it there and prevent the load from slipping and landing with a crash. The other end of the rope is tied to a bucket or a container to hold the boxes. The bucket will be gently lowered by slowly releasing the rope down. It is simple but effective.
